C4 PLANT PHOTOSYNTHESIS
C4 plants:
→C4 plants, produce 4 carbon compound in the dark reactions of photosynthesis.
→These plants are adapted to live in hot regions and intense sunlight.
Examples: Corn, sugarcane, crabgrass, sorghum…
*C-4 Plant Photosynthesis:
→The photosynthetic reactions of C4 plants occur within the mesophyll and bundle-sheat cells.
Within the mesophyll cells:
→PEP carboxylase adds CO2 to PEP and produces oxaloacetate.
→Then, oxaloacetate converts to malate.
→After that, the malate transports to the bundle-sheat cells.
Within the bundle-sheath cells:
→The malate is broken down into CO2 and pyruvate.
→Then, CO2 converts to glucose by Calvin cycle.
