ALGAE-MOSS AND FERN LIFE CYCLE
*Algae life cycle:
→Gametophyte undergoes mitosis and thus, gametes form.
→Some of the gametes are female (egg) and some of them are male (sperm).
→The female and male gametes fuse and thus, zygote forms.
→Then, the zygote undergoes meiosis and four haploid spores form.
→Each of the spores develop by mitosis and thus, gametophytes form.
*Moss life cycle:
→Male gametophyte undergoes mitosis and thus, male gametes (sperm) form.
→Female gametophyte undergoes mitosis and thus, female gametes (egg) form.
→At the tip of the female gametophyte: the male and female gametes fuse and zygote forms.
→The zygote develops by mitosis and thus, sporophyte forms.
→The sporophyte undergoes meiosis and four haploid spores form.
→Each of the spores develop by mitosis and thus, gametophytes form.
*Fern life cycle:
→Sporophyte undergoes meiosis and thus, four haploid spores form.
→Each of the spores develop by mitosis and thus, gametophytes (prothallus) form.
→The prothallus have both male (antheridium) and female (archegonium) organs.
→Antheridium undergoes mitosis and thus, male gametes (sperm) form.
→Archegonium undergoes mitosis and thus, female gametes (egg) form.
→The male and female gametes fuse and zygote forms.
→The zygote develops by mitosis and thus, sporophyte forms.
